Side Quest - I'm I ever going to be happy with anything I draw

Progress

The first Illustration I'm happy with, the second I can't get happy with so keep playing with it and getting bad results. The third I'm super happy with and that turn out the best even though there are bit in it i'm not happy with and I'm not sure on how to fix or I'm just damn pickle, Sods Law. Today I'm going to test print then and if hunk of any way to save my second piece. Just one week left, I hope I can turn out some good work before then.

Chapter Nineteen - Tea and Cookies

More Reflection

Module 7:

In this module, it's about keeping a blog and record what I do in classes, make S.W.O.T targets and reflective on all the past modules. I will driven you all crazy with all my posts and keep you up to date with my work and what artist, Illustrators and Animators  I like and follow. On  reflection I when I started this blog, I didn't really like the idea of people all over the world read about my life, it sounds very scary... still does, what gets me though the day, is not thinking about it, haha don't hate me.

My strengths are for this module:-
  • updating my blog every week
My weaknesses are for this module:-
  • Worrying about what people think and that effects how much I put on my blog.

Module 8:

In this module, is to create three Illustrations for a ghost story for 'House of Illustration' competition. I will look loads of Illustrators and decide on style and think about which part of the story that I want to Illustrate. On reflection I enjoyed this module, really relaxing than to creating animation.

My strengths are for this module:-
  •  keep to my targets
My weaknesses are for this module:-
  • getting my work to good/finished standard

Chapter Eighteen - Over half way there

Progress

To recap I finished the first and second Illustrations and working on finishing the third. But now looking at the second pieceI think I'm going to do some touch ups, work off different computers makes it difficult to match colour and light/shadow. I'm going to test print today, so I can see I need to make changes to the Illustrations. The third I still need to finish by adding shading and building layers up.

Targets for this week to be finished for next Monday:-

  1. Print off the first two pieces
  2. Finish off writing up work and print off
  3. Finish the third Illustration
  4. Update my Blog

Yay, to hitting all last week targets, I'm on track to finish on time for my deadline.
Two weeks left!

Chapter Seventeen - SCREEN SHOTS!!!

UV Mapping and Texture Mapping

Today in class we learnt how to put texture on a model in Cinema 4D and Photoshop and how to create UV map of model. We took an example of a sphere and  gave to 12 segments then make it editable polygon. Then change Cinema 4D layout to  UV. Cinema 4D would of created a default cut out but we want to create our known. Then selected the edges tool and selected the edges in a way shown on the screen shots below. Then we need to save the selected edges going to the top bar, clicking select Geometry then set selection and that will saved the selected edges as a triangle icon next to your object in the bottom left hand box.

Then we want to put the UV map we created into the top right hand box (all my screen shot are of the final UV map none of the default UV map) To do this you need to selected all UV Map in the top right hand box (alt + left mouse click and make sure live selection clicked on) now look in the the bottom right hand box and change it to Projection, click on flat and that will give you the flat side of the sphere shape. Next go to Relax UV than next to projections. Here you need to drag your triangle (selected edges) into the cut selected edges box, un-tick Pin Border Points and tick cut selected edges and use tag and Apply and you have UV map like on the screen shot below and above.

Don't forget to resize your UV Map to fit in the box.

Now we need to create a new texture layer, make this white. You will find this in the top right hand box under file, new texture layer. Next make a new layer in the bottom right hand box (click on the layers selection) then create UV mesh layer and put the back lines in, save as TIFF so it keep all the layers.  Open up Photoshop, colour up the line art, save, drag and drop in cinema 4D and Ta Da.... All Done ^_^

Creating a more advanced UV Map for a Character Model. Made in the same way as above but with more pieces.

Side Quest - Update

Progress - Help from high places

I have shown my work to David (Tutor) and he gave me pointer on how to improve my Illustrations, with his guidance, he has helped me first my first piece.

The second piece is still a work in progress, David said to focus in on the Illustration which I have done in the screen shot below and I think it looks a lot better now.

I have restarted my final Illustration because it was so bad....

Chapter Sixteen - From Walk to Run

Today class Work been on changing a walk cycle to Run cycle

Today we been looking at walk and run cycle in cinema 4D, looking at the difference in the keyframes, for example one being for my walk cycle I used 40 frames to create my loop and for the run cycle I used 20 frames. I feel it was a success even with feeling poorly, go me!

The first screen shot is showing the keyframes for the walk cycle. The screen shot below is of the key frames for my run cycle.

Here shows the model movement with the keyframes below of the pelvis control.

Here is the teacher version of the run cycle I'm using to compare with my own work, I used the same amount of keyframes (20) but I found that run cycle had less movement than the teachers. That doesn't mean my run cycle wrong because run and walk cycle can be/should be different for an other charter to give personal to that character. I feel a mark of a good animation is where an animator has thought about how character personality would make a character move differently from an other.

I think that do fish for todays updates ^_^

Chapter Fifteen - Targets

My Targets for this week tone completed for next Monday are :-

  1. Keep working on my final pieces
  2. Keep doing my daily write up
  3. Keep you lovely people up too date on it

My past Targets

I need to beef up my written work, for I been quite lazy, especial with this blog I really need to write better research, Its very poor work for me >_<.

Chapter fourteen - Slow Progress

Lazy Holidays

Taking my time, making sure everything going smoothly. I'm being kinda lazy in the holidays but I'm making sure I'm doing something everyday. Here the progress on my Illustrations :-
My first piece is close to being finished, I think little bit more work on the land and it be done. I happy with the sky and bird.

This piece has going long a treat, it still got some way to go. I don't think the brick wall is working and I'm not sure what I'm going to do to improve it yet. But I'm super happy with the characters in the Illustration, I bit more work on shading and it is passable.

This has turn into a monster, I don't think I have improved this piece in fact it got worst. I need to save it which hopefully I can do.

Chapter Thirteen - when side quest become part of the story

I find my lack of work disturbing

Here my latest progress on my Illustrations, first Illustration going well. I'm started to put in the detail and work up the layers. I like that I chosen one colour and used different tones, it still a long way off being finished.

My second Illustration is falling before the other two, having had to start again because of the angles issue. I feel this one better but it has loads of work to get it up too scratch.

The final Illustration is slowly moving along, it just case of starting/trying to create depth and i'm stopping problem that I need to correct, like the shadows hand/fingers are the wrong length and the lady hand that holds the book, is not right.

Targets for this week are, to be completed for next Monday :-

  1. Keep up the progress on my pieces
  2. Build up my written work
  3. Keep you guys posted

Side Quest - Progress

Slow going but Fun

Okay as promised an update on my progress so far is building up light and dark on my photo bashes. I'm super messy artist and work in loads of layer. So far my first Illustration is going well been concentrating on the side, the ground got a long way to go but I'm happy with it progress.

Next photo bash I'm been having problems with the angles and trying to make this shadowy figure. So I got two of my class mates to have me, Sam and Charlie (which in photograph they looked far to happy that it was creepy) to pose for me. I need to do more work on this piece to catch up with the other two Illustrations.  Oh yeah, must make a special mention to a behind the scenes helper and friend Nicole. Check out these guys blogs they are far more talented than me and interesting.

An other slow progress but going well on my photo bash. I'm trying a new style that I always wish to try and hopefully I can get to the standard that i'm aiming for. I big aim is to get the shading so well that I lost the black outline, that big goal for me to not have an outline around my pieces.
